Map content
Public transport maps can be in different formats (pocket, fold-out, poster, etc.) and represent the city geographically (as is usually the case in southern Europe), schematically (as is usually done in the Nordic countries) or in a hybrid way. They can even be decorative. But the most important thing is that they do their job perfectly. And if they are visually pleasing, so much the better! As a general rule, they must have the following points in common:
- They allow the general structure of the network to be identified at a glance
- They have details that are visible at a second glance but do not bother you at first
- Lines can be followed individually
- They indicate the passage frequency of the lines graphically
- They avoid explanatory texts as much as possible because they show it graphically
- They show all the stops and not just the most important ones.
- They graphically distinguish the stops that serve in one direction or in both directions
- They have graphic consistency in the placement of the signage
If you are part of an entity or passenger transport company and you want a plan that meets all these characteristics, remember that I offer a consulting service in which I can lend a hand in the preparation of a network plan and also in the information to the user. Find me in the Contact section.
